Log every film you watch in Plex, automatically
Connect Plex to Reelist with a webhook and every film you finish lands in your film diary that day, with the stars you give it in Plex.
What you need
- A Plex server, and Plex Pass on the server owner’s account. Webhooks are a Plex Pass feature.
- A Reelist account. Sign up at reelist.app; it takes an email and a password.
Set it up
- In Reelist, open Sources → Plex and create your webhook URL. Copy it straight away: it’s shown only once.
- Open Plex Web → Settings → Webhooks, signed in as the server owner.
- Choose Add Webhook, paste the URL and Save Changes.
- Play anything for a moment. The Plex page in Reelist is listening and says when Plex gets through.
If nothing arrives, check that your server’s Settings → Network has Webhooks switched on, and that you set the webhook up while signed in as the owner.
What gets logged
- Finish a film (play it past 90%) and it’s in your diary, dated the day you watched it in your own time zone.
- Rate it in Plex within a fortnight and the stars come across: Plex’s 8 out of 10 is four stars. You can also rate it in Reelist, which asks “How was it?” about recent films you haven’t rated.
- Stop part way (ten minutes or more in) and the film waits under Tonight as “Pick up where you left off”.
- Finish it again within a day and it counts as the same viewing, not a rewatch, so nothing is logged twice.
Only your own plays count. Other people on your server, and everyone in your Plex Home, are skipped, and so are TV episodes. A film Reelist can’t identify for certain is left out rather than guessed; the Plex page’s activity feed shows it so you can log it by hand.
Films you’ve already watched
The same page can also bring in everything you’ve already played in Plex, once, so the diary starts complete.
