REELIST

Guides

Turn your Netflix viewing history into a film diary

Download your Netflix viewing activity and Reelist keeps the films, drops the TV episodes and asks before it guesses.

Bring it in

  1. On netflix.com, open your profile’s Viewing Activity (netflix.com/viewingactivity, after picking the profile) and choose Download all.
  2. In Reelist, open Sources → Netflix and drop the NetflixViewingHistory.csv file.

Each Netflix profile has its own history, so download it from the profile that’s yours. Dropping a newer download later updates entries in place.

Films in, TV out

Netflix lists every episode of every series alongside the films. Reelist is a film diary, so it filters out anything shaped like an episode (“Show: Season 2: Episode”) while keeping films that only look like one, such as Kill Bill: Vol. 1 or John Wick: Chapter 4. Titles TMDB doesn’t know as films go into a folded-away “likely TV” section, where you can still rescue a film that landed there.

A film watched over a few evenings shows up in the history once per sitting; those collapse into a single viewing on the first night, so they don’t read as rewatches.

When it isn’t sure

Netflix gives only a title and a date: no year, no running time. So Reelist matches a film by itself only when exactly one film with that exact title had come out by the date you watched it. Remakes and films that share a title wait for one click, rather than risk logging the wrong one. The date’s format (month first or day first) is worked out from the whole file.
